The Patagonia fruits S.A. project is a 40 hectares Pomegranate plantation, and a propagating nursery for high quality pomegranate plants.
Patagonia fruits S.A. is located in the province of San Luis, south of the border with the province of Cordoba. The project was established for two main purposes: firstly, to produce high quality pomegranate plants, and secondly, as a producing plantation for high quality pomegranate fruits. The project imported high quality plants from the Ilan Cohen nursery in Israel, and it has plants ready to sell to the domestic market in Argentina and possibly to Uruguay. Apart of the nursery, the project is developing 40 hectares of pomegranate plantation based on Wonderful variety, 116 and Akko. The project will produce fruit for the export market and is also developing the agro-industrial option.
Market studies have indicated that the southern hemisphere has a great opportunity to develop a counter season production of pomegranates for fresh fruit export.
An industry for juice, fresh cut arils, and other bi-products is also due to be established.
